Welcome to my blog and my adjuncting journey. I'm so glad you're here! I am a fulltime public relations professional who has spent decades supporting corporate entities and professional services firms articulate their stories. I have met amazing colleagues and worked in three major cities. I have led business groups and professional associations. But the one part of my career that has always provided the biggest spark was the opportunity to train, mentor and coach younger colleagues. My love for teaching continues to provide me a source of inspiration for my own career along with a much-needed boost when I occasionally feel creatively blocked or challenged by a tricky client situation.

At my core I also believe I am a creator and storyteller. Teaching is an outlet: every week I need to design and deliver a presentation that wows. (Or at the very least, keep students from falling asleep and help me rest easy knowing the students get the value they deserve from their ever-increasing tuition.)

I love higher education. I love a college campus in the fall. I love the energy and the optimism that comes with a new semester. I love feeling like everything is possible because that simply doesn't happen in a professional setting very often. I also know and respect that tenure-track, PhD professors deliver some of the most vital content to our students and there are some subjects I would never have understood were it not for the professor who had devoted his or her life's ambition to that topic.

But I also passionately believe that we need talented adjuncts with applied experience to bring academic concepts to life. Work is changing so quickly, and adjuncts can provide students with the real-world, real-time insights about their chosen course of study. Our knowledge answers so many questions that students have about what happens after they step off campus with a newly-minted degree.

There is a larger conversation about adjunct teaching underway in the academic community. My content is not intended to address the current challenges; it's simply an invitation to bring valuable professional experience into the classroom. I believe students benefit when they receive instruction from both career academics and people who have worked hands-on in career fields!
